After the Opium War, the western technology, ideology and culture wereintroduced into China. Shanghai, as one of the first open trading ports, affected byforeign culture deeply. The film was introduced into Shanghai at the end of the19thcentury, and began to take root rapidly. With the development of film and newspaperindustry, the film press appeared as a new media.“Film Repository” and “Film Magazine” are the earliest film press in our countrywere born in1921, soon after, many professional film presses were issued as “ChenXing”,“Star Monthly”,“Film Life”,“Film Monthly Report”,“Dian Sheng” and“Qingchun Film” and so on. They had promoted the development of modernentertainment, to convey modern way of life and accelerated the pace of people adaptto city life by reported film news and the life of movie stars. In addition, film presshad constructed the modern consciousness of modernity from three aspects in theprocess of modern social transformation for Shanghai. Firstly, film press holds theview that they should preserve traditional morality and social order, and blamedwhich musical movie and crime film generated the tendency of vulgar fun. Andcomment the film; guide the public to form the correct concept of viewing. Then, filmpress broke away shackles of traditional social morality under the influence ofwomen’s liberation, with love, marriage, divorce and other message, breaking thesing-mindedness marriage pattern. And through shaped the new female image whatpursue their art and careers, encouraged women to the society and made them becomethe independent new female. Finally, in the age of malaise, Chinas film industry wasfacing the problems that lack of funds, cutthroat competition and poor quality of thefilm, and suffered the damage of the national image from the films of humiliating toChina. As a public opinion, film press with the function that regulating therelationship between individual and society, to maintain of the state and nationalinterests. It revealed the problem of filmdom and explored the reasons so that canunite the filmdom, and accused the films of humiliating to China on behalf of the folkdiscourse, cooperation with the official discourse. Film press monitoring the films ofhumiliating to China and safeguarding the national interests, Shanghai transformationhas accelerated as the traditional city transforming into a modern one.
