| Xiedian movie, which is the Chinese interpretation of “Cult movie” and is often literallytranslated into cult movie or cult film. After the “Global Screen Illustrated”magazine translatedit into cult movie for the first time in2003, it has been widely accepted and spread in the world.Cult movie, which is neither a type of films, nor need we give it a closed definition. If we wantto have a comprehensive cognitive about cult film we should analysis: the characteristics ofwhich are call “cult film”; which cultural phenomenon cult film brings and how cult movie isdeveloped from “midnight movie” along the way. Study on representative cult films andphenomena they bring to explore those aesthetic characteristics of what become a “cult”, and thevalue of those worth exploring.The thesis will discuss cult movie from several sections in the following.First of all, the thesis will compare cult movie with independent film, underground film andexploitation film respectively to find out links between them, and draw out characteristics of cultmovie instead of giving it a closed definition or regarding cult movie as a type of films.Secondly, we put cult film in the long river of history and study the typical cult filmslongitudinally, then we can have a research that cult movie is a show of social subculture byanalyzing the typical cult films. In the films, the subject matter is often extremely not receivedby the public, or the forms of films are technique different with the traditional films. Therefore,this is not just combing the historical development of cult film simply, but also regarding theserepresentative films as reference. So we can have a relatively comprehensive cognition anddiscussion of cult movie deeply.Thirdly, chapter three and chapter four of this thesis study the aesthetic characteristics andmultiple value of cult movie from the perspective of the cult film ontology respectively. Thispart of the study will have a more profound cognition to cult film. In this section, the thesisstudies on the style and content of cult film in the aesthetic characteristics, and pays attention tothe value of cult movie for the movie world and social culture, and it is also an important way toknow why this movie world’s alternative attracts a small minority of fans crazy about them.Through the analysis and study of these parts, we should clearly recognize the perceptionof cult film from the view of opening up and development and correctly understand culturalphenomenon which caused by the cult film and the relationship between the birth anddevelopment of cult film and the social culture. |
