| Along with the acceleration of world integration, exchanges between Chinese and western culture have become more frequent and deepened. The subject of comparing Chinese and western art has interested many scholars and they have dedicated to the research. Many scholars have compared Chinese and western art in a macro, comprehensive and deep way, but there is few study comparing on microscopic and concrete level. On the basis of preceding research, this paper tries to compare the art language of the same material under Chinese and western cultural background, hoping to grasp the characteristics of oil painting and Chinese painting more comprehensively.This article selects a traditional Chinese painting subject "lotus", compares "lotus" by Zhang Daqian, a traditional Chinese painter who is famous for painting lotus, and "water lily" by the master of impressionism Monet, further more compares the difference between oil painting and traditional Chinese painting when expressing the same material, aiming at intriguing deep thinking about borrowing and expressing traditional Chinese element in contemporary Chinese oil painting. In nearly a century of cultural exchanges, both Chinese and western artists have sought to assimilate the essence of art from the other side, enriching the creation of their own nation. Chinese oil painters especially have learned a lot of techniques and ideas from western art. Contemporary Chinese oil painters should base upon their own cultural roots, improve and broaden their horizons, optimize artistic language from essence rather than appearance, and create art works with higher artistic value. |
