Zhang Daqian is an important painting artist of modern painting world inChina.He is not only a remarkable practitioner of art,but also an excellent painting arttheorist.His painting theory contains the traditional and simple views of creation andthe aesthetics with modern ideology,but the theorists have not paid enough attention tohis theory.Through elaborating the“Three Principles”of Zhang Daqian’s paintingcreations and his aesthetic standards of “Three Beauty” and the thoughts of paintingart that under the influence of ShiTao’s“yi hua fa”,this paper tries to interpret andunearth ZhangDaqian’s thoughts of painting art deeply and show a new and moreprofound painting art aesthetic standard which has metaphysical and spiritualpursuit.Moreover, this paper will re-examine Zhang Daqian’s understanding of"beauty" in traditional Chinese painting.All of these will be of great importance to thedevelopment of Chinese painting art theory.This article will take Zhang Daqian’s painting art practice as the longitude andtake his art thought as latitude.The article adopts the method of combination of theabove two angles and it is divided into five major contents in order to explore theabove arguments.The first chapter introduces the development of Zhang Daqian’s artthought.This chapter introduce the background firstly that is the difficult era of thetraditional Chinese painting and in this era, Zhang Daqian began to acceptothers’thoughts.This paper will combinate these thoughts with his art practice toexplore the cause of his art thought.The second chapter focuses on the exploration ofone of the main content of Zhang Daqian’s painting art thought---the problem of“Three principles”.Firstly,this paper explain the meaning of “physics, the feeling ofmater,the sate of matter”,which illustrates that if artists wants to lay the foundation ofexcellent works,they must keep painting from life and observing the“physical”ofeverything in this world with their hearts.If the artists wants to experience the “thefeeling of mater”,they must have rich inner experience and realize the nature subtly.Secondly,this paper explore the embodiment of“three principles”.The maincontent of the third chapter is to explore the concepts and characteristics of the ZhangDaqian’s painting art aesthetic standards---“Three beauty”,which are “large, light andcurve”This chapter points out the Zhang Daqian’s critical spirit of the pursuit of“large” ideas of beauty.And his works have a separate drawing spirit of “light”and adeep connotation of the “curve” with modern ideology.All of these show that in themodern society,the cultural pursuit to “property”is short of artistic soul and it ispassive.In this decadent atmosphere of art culture,the painting standards of “threebeauty”will create important significance on the orientation and regress of beauty.Thefourth chapter interprets and explores Zhang Daqian’s creative thinking,creativeperformance which are under the influence of the “yi hua fa”.This chapter also pointsout the deep connotation of the aesthetic of ZhangDaqian’s thought to interpret hisaesthetic thought of splash-ink in later period that contains the traditional Chinesephilosophy and aesthetics.The fifth chapter proposes objective evaluation toZhangDaqian’s art thoughts that contents modern and contemporary art and itslimitations.The part of his thoughts’influence is divied into three sections,thecontribution to the theoretical innovation,the influence on the art of the China,thesignificance on Chinese and western art exchange.The main method is longitudinalpainting history and transverse comparison of contemporary artists.This kind ofcomparison measures the position and value of his thoughts,The second part mainlystudies the cause and performance of the limitation of his thoughts.In the practice of Zhang Daqian,his understanding of the traditional Chinesepainting “beauty” is more and more deep.Standing in the traditional and moderntransition,from the viewpoint of culture collision between Chinese and western art,hehad independent judgment, he did’t lose himself,His practice has proved that themetaphysical pursuit are deep problems,we should take care of the present and weshuld be close to the true nature of art,Paying attention to Zhang Daqian paintingthoughts and mining traditional culture essence are important parts of civilizationconstruction.
