As the old saying goes:"Up and down the Quartet make up YU, past and present make up the universe." Space, as a humanity face in the context of modernity study, shows the transformation of Western literary theory and aesthetics in the20th Century. From Kant’s "transcendental perception" to Josef Frank’s "spatial form", the research of space in Western literature and aesthetics has come out from implicit to explicit, corresponding to the forms of human emotions as well as the situation of modern life. As one representative genre of modern literature, Stream of consciousness shows magnificent human inside world and describes the indistinct hole of micro and multilayer consciousness with the subjective eye peeping the impermanence change of humanity. It has not only consisted of inside monologue, free imagine and inside analysis as main features of narrative style, but also made a way for a new area of Space-time structure in narrative. Therefore, all these have provided possibility for the new research method. As noted above, my paper illustrates generally as follows:Introduction:With modernity as the background, this article attempts to present changes of emotional diagrams of modern people, including the "internal" emotional experiences on the one hand and the reinforcement of senses of space and space experiences due to the dislocation perception of time on the other hand. This article sorts out the research turns of humanities of the Western world after the20th century from the perspective of space, which leads to the emergence of new space-time view for modern novels on narratology research. Thus, the concept of space in narratological study is included.Chapter Ⅰ:On one hand, by indexing the origin and research of the Stream-of-Consciousness novel, this article proves that the possibility of embedding space research in innovating the narratological form in terms of time-space relationship;on the other hand, based on the review of the concept of spatial form, this part of the article forms a connotation description with structural metaphor as the main focus, simultaneity and juxtaposition as the main features by extracting the everlasting factors in ever-changing spatial form in rheology, and finally settles down on the metaphor of reading experience that the moment when time stands still is eternity.Chapter Ⅱ:Through extensive reading and analysis of classical novels of Stream-of-Consciousness, this part elaborates the new quality of spatial form contained in narratological structure on the level of discourse, narration, plot and acceptation, with a view to illustrates how the abstract meaning of spatial form is used in the text in order to achieve a harmonious aesthetic effect. Chapter Ⅲ:By putting the concept of spatial form in the context of20th literary theories, this part, fucous on the reflection experience of modernity and the de-familiarization emotions, further explores the significance and value of spatial form in Narratology and Aesthetics. This article will place Spatial Form and Stream of Consciousness novels in aesthetic of modernity background in20th century. It will combine spatial form with the analysis of narratology structure of classic narratology and post-classic narratology, and reveal the inner relation between modernity and space. It will also explore the new factors of aesthetics in modern literary works.
