Mikhail Bulgakov completed<The Master and Margarita>in the period of the literary theory of reflection. At the very start RAPP condemned this work strongly. They said the novel had defamed the newborn socialist system, also made pointed allusions to the Soviet regime and leaders. But after publishing, the literature received Western critics’ high evaluation. The social reality reflected in the novel obtained critics’ affirmation, they also spoke highly of Bulgakov’s thoughts and emotions. However,no matter praise or blame, both scholars looked to the social reality reflected in the novel and writer’s personal opinion---that is,writer’s subjectivity embodied in his work.No doubt, literature and art should reflect the social reality, but this reflection is by no means straightforward, mechanical, monotonous reflection, but should be fully active reflection. The vitality of literature doesn’t lie in author’s private opinions, but in the course of disguising author’s personal subjectivity, making it "strange", so that the literature can lead readers to think;in the course of establishing a dialogue relationship with readers to arouse readers’ art creativity. In this thesis,we’ll try to study the author’s implied subjectivity, the characters’ subjectivity and the readers’ subjectivity. The purpose is to analyze authorial subjectivity’s alienation effect in writing techniques, narration plot and personal emotion,to search the cause and intention, why Bulgakov dissembled personal subjectivity in this work, to affirm the active effects of "Defamiliarization".Thus we can try to discover the excellent artistic skills and complicated and profound spiritual world of Bulgakov.
