As one of the foremost novelists of post-revolutionary Russia, Mikhail Bulgakov is best known for his Master and Margarita. Many research works have been published since his rehabilitation in the late 1950s and early 1960s. As for the study object, it paid more attention either to his novel and essays or to his drama, but paid less attention to the interaction between the two literary style in his works. So this dissertation analyzes the tendency of dramatization in his novels to show the innovative significance in narratology. As for the study tendency and geographical factor, there are two parts-the former Soviet Union and West. The former always stressed on the writer's corporative attitude with the government. The latter often took the writer's tragic life to improve the cruelty of Stalin's rule. We admitted that we couldn't know the writer without the background of social history. But we don't think it's right to prune the materials according to a certain target. Bulgakov is not a political symbol, but an intellectual at first. His stand is decided by the intellectual's independence and responsibility. The dissertation discussed all kinds of explorations that he did as an intellectual in the times of upheavals and under Stalin's rule, and their expressions in literature.
