The political and cultural context in the1930s was an important external factor that facilitated the development of the1930s historical novels. This context exerted an influence on the subjective state of mind of historical fiction writers, which then was revealed in the creation of historical novels. Therefore, these novels should be studied from a special political and cultural perspective. In terms of material selection, subject processing, aesthetic pursuit and artistic skills, they exhibit distinct political tendency.Through repeated reading and in-depth analysis of the texts of modern historical novels, on the basis of the reconstruction of the political and cultural atmosphere in the1930s, this paper studies how the external "political culture" affects the creation of historical novels, and then analyzes the norms and constraints imposed by this kind of "political statute" on these novels. Finally, a profound interpretation from the political and cultural perspective is presented. Thus, the influence of the political and cultural context on these novels and its significance in literary history are explored.Chapter One starts from the political and cultural form of "non-integrated model" in the1930s and investigates the political and cultural factor that contributes to the flourishing historical novel creation as well as the specific manifestation of the flourishment.Chapter Two discusses that, under the influence of specific political and cultural statute, the historical fiction writers in the1930s expressed their political aspirations in their novels, which were the direct motivation of their creation. Meanwhile, these aspirations also shaped their creative concepts of historical novels.Chapter Three focuses on the material selection of the historical novels in the1930s. The several widely-used subjects are closely related to political elements. The writers’ artistic processing of historical novels also reflected their specific political stance. In this way, a particular narrative style is formed in these novels.Chapter Four demonstrates the aesthetic pursuit and specific performance of the historical novels in the1930s, namely, strong social scientific color, general political lyrical expression, distinct political passion catharsis, the aesthetic pursuit of "beauty of tension" and the specific stylistic choice under this.In the conclusion part, a fair evaluation from the angle of literary history is conducted on the gains and losses of the historical novel creation in the1930s.
