Mao Dun's novels not only present the history of modern China's changing, but also record his mental progress following the advance of the times. So his novels are of both era impressions and his own unique soul impressions. One of the most important features of Mao Dun'novels is the combination of novels and politics, where the political inclination is more conscious, strong and vivid compared to most contemporary writers. Thus exploring the political inclination is an indispensible angle to study the unique significance and value of his novels and assess their cons and pros. The inclination of Mao Dun's novels is studied in this essay mainly from the aspect of Political Culture theory. Mao Dun's cultural thoughts present multiple colors in the background of modern China's specific political culture. And it is his multiple cultural thoughts that lead to multiple political hues in his novels which display a certain "contradiction" because of the degree of the political culture intervention, reflecting the unique way of political intervening and writers'unique artistic pursuit in fiction writing. The whole essay consists of four part as follows. The first part discusses the modern Chinese literature in a political cultural view which mainly focuses on the background of the political inclination in Mao Dun's novels. The modern Chinese politics and culture is very vital to the emergence of the strong political participant consciousness among Chinese modern writers, because it is in this cultural environment that the writers can not be inevitably affected by the modern politics, so is Mao Dun and his works. The second part discusses the development and multiple colors of Mao Dun's political and cultural thoughts aiming to provide theoretical foundations to the multidimensionality and development trend of Mao Dun and his works. Mao Dun's thoughts have experienced a long process which contains Democratic Reform ideas, "May Forth" New Culture thoughts, Proletarian ideas and left-wing political thoughts, etc, revealing the multiplicity and complexity of political inclination. The third part focuses on the political hues of Mao Dun's novels in a political culture angle. Seen from this point, there are three kinds of political connotations in his novels named as "National Politics", "Proletarian Politics"and"Personal Imagination" which are results of his persistence in national politics thoughts and enthusiasm in building a new modern nation state, speech towards Revolution and class in the influence of left-wing cultural trend and personal findings and expressions from the Active acceptance of Chinese morden political culture. The last part discusses the intervention degree of politics and culture and the "contradiction" in Mao Dun's novels. Mao Dun's acceptance of multiple political culture leads to his novel full of multiple values. There is a divergence in choice between the political demands and personal expressions against the multiple political and cultural backgrounds which is a mark of "contradiction" in texts. So his works are not only of "political" meaning; The reason why Mao Dun's novels develop such feature is because of the interact between the unique way of intervention of political culture and writer's unique artistic pursuit in fiction writing.
