"Not X, But Y" Sentence Research

"Not X, but Y" is a common negative sentence. In the process of language development,"not...but..."has gradually expanded from semantic negation to pragmatic negation. Many scholars have studied it, but their results were not comprehensive. Based on the "three plane" theory, we combine theory of semantics, cognitive linguistics and other related, meanwhile, we try to contact "Not X, but Y"’ with the present popular patterns such as "there is a X named Y"."more than N" to analyze the cause of supernormal collocation patterns. The paper mainly includes four parts as follows.The first chapter studies language table form of "Not X. but Y".The first section summarizes three kinds of form of "Not X,but Y"; the relationship between the three sentence; variants of "Not X, but Y".The second section studies the composition of X and Y primarily the particularity of the composition of3.The third section analyzes "Not X, but Y" serving as sentence or complex sentence.The second chapter studies semantic of "Not X, but Y".Three sections of this chapter respectively analyze semantic of sentence1, sentence2and sentence3; outline several kinds of semantic type such as progressive, highlight, correct and so on.The third chapter studies pragmatic of "Not X, but Y".The first section mainly discusses semantic negation and pragmatic negation, sentence2and sentence3belong to pragmatic negation; the second section studies the way of judgment pattern of sentence2and sentence3.The third section analyzes the characteristics of words of sentence2and sentence3from subjectivity and prospectivity.The fourth chapter studies the epidemic reason of "Not X, but Y"and others. We analyze from three aspects:the internal reasons, the external reasons, the cognitive reasons.
