Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol (1809-1852) occupies an unshakable position in both Russian and worldwide literary society. With his unique artistic charm and ideological connotations, his creation exercises a great influence on other writers and readers. Studies on humor, sarcasm, social loving care and religious affection are wildly known by people. His narrative gift also attracts researchers’ interest. This paper will make a research into Gogol’s narrative art, expecting to discover mystery of his works.The foreword is a brief introduction of research on Gogol in his time and current research situation and the motivation to choose this topic. Then it is divided into four chapters. The first chapter focuses on narrative perspective in Gogol’s works, making analysis at three main focalization modes and their function, while the following chapter is aimed at the narrative voice and its art, making exploration on relationship between the writer and his writings. The topic of the third chapter is narrative space, in which two theme-spaces, main methods and features of exchanging spaces, the method of managing time during space description are discussed. The last chapter analyses periodic changes of Gogol’s sarcasm features and his ways to process language, so as to explore his art of handling language. Finally comes the conclusion of the whole thesis.
