Cognitive Linguistics thinks that metaphor is a way of thinking, experience and behavior, more than a way of Rhetoric Vocabulary formed through the way of metaphor is called metaphorical vocabulary which can express the meaning unlike or go against the literal meaning. In Chinese, some natural phenomena and objects are often used as source domain to form series of natural kind metaphorical vocabulary. This essay will be guided by Cognitive metaphor theory,make a statistics&analysis on the natural kind metaphorical vocabulary appearing in the textbooks of CAFL(Chinese as a foreign language),investigate the factors that impact the conformation of natural kind metaphorical vocabulary, and then propose some suggestions for teaching.This essay is divided into four parts.Part I:Introduction. First, it expounds the development of metaphor theory and the meaning of metaphorical vocabulary. Second, it discusses the impact of the metaphor mechanism on the meaning of a word. Then it introduces the reason and research situation of this essay. Finally, the object of this study, the corpus sources and the research methods are briefly described.Part Ⅱ, it conducts a statistical analysis on the natural kind metaphorical vocabulary appearing in the textbooks of Han Yu Zongheng, points out that these vocabulary have different characteristics at different stages of Chinese Learning:①The amount is growing as the improvement of the level of Chinese learning.②The main forms of natural kind metaphorical vocabulary are words and idioms, the forms of Locution and Xiehouyu are rare.③The semantic field of natural kind metaphorical vocabulary appearing in the textbooks mainly involves astronomical, meteorological, geographical landscape and the substances in Five Elements Theory. To understand and study these characteristics is helpful to find a more reasonable&effective way of teaching.Part Ⅲ, it mainly discusses the various factors affecting the conformation of the Chinese natural kind metaphorical vocabulary, points out that the ancient Chinese traditional philosophy, the geographical environment surrounded by mountains and rivers, special history and literature factors and religious culture dominated by Buddhism and Taoism have particularly important influence on Chinese natural kind metaphorical vocabulary.Part IV will be based on the first three parts and guided by the Cognitive metaphor theory to make relevant suggestions on the teaching of natural kind metaphorical vocabulary. It figures out that the teaching of this kind vocabulary should be based on the three principles: based on the common metaphors between the students’ mother tongue and Chinese to teach, contrast the difference between the students’ mother tongue and Chinese to teach, and based on the networks of the metaphorical vocabulary to teach. It also points out that we should adopt different teaching methods for this type of vocabulary at different stages of Chinese learning and teach step by step.Finally, the conclusion is a brief summary of this essay, it figures out that there are still some deficiencies on the analysis of Chinese natural kind metaphorical vocabulary and the suggestions for teaching.
