Lu Can (1494-1552), a literatus and scholar in the mid Ming dynasty, was learning and talented. He took a great pleasure in literature and history. When young, he specialized in The Spring and Autumn Annals, advocating Hu Zhuan and Zuo Zhuan. Zuo Zhuan Fu Zhu was Lu Can’s study notes of Zuo Zhuan and Du Zhu, Kong Shu, Yin Yi. The study notes were transcribed and compiled as a book by his son Lu Yanzhi. It aims at refuting and correcting the errors of Du Zhu, Kong Shu and Yin Yi, and usually strikes home. It learns widely from others’ strong points and demonstrates precisely. It occupies an important position in the history of Zuo Zhuan textology and Du Zhu’s interpretation. To a certain extent, it pays a enlightening role in the textology of the Qing Dynasty. The paper is divided into four chapters:The first chapter:Lu Can and Zuo Zhuan. This chapter is divided into two sections:the first section introduces Lu Can’s life and writings, especially the evaluation by the later scholars; the second section introduces Lu Can’s views on Zuo Zhuan, emphasizing Lu Can’s understanding of the basic questions on Zuo Zhuan and his attitude towards Zuo Zhuan.The second chapter:the content of Zuo Zhuan Fu Zhu. This chapter is divided into four sections:the first section introduces its refuting and correcting Du Zhu, making a summary of the criticisms to Du Zhu, emphasizing on the rectification to Du Zhu in the exegetical and textual research; the second section introduces its refuting and correcting Kong Shu, making a summary of the criticisms to Kong Shu, emphasizing on the rectification to Kong Shu in the exegetical and textual research; the third section introduces its refuting and correcting Yin Yi, making a summary of the criticisms to Yin Yi, emphasizing on the rectification to Yin Yi in terms of pronunciation and punctuating; the fourth section introduces its distinguishing the false of the texts, including the texts of Zuo Zhuan, Du Zhu, Yin Yi.The third chapter:the characteristics of Zuo Zhuan Fu Zhu. This chapter is divided into three sections:the first section introduces the characteristics of gloss, namely, the attitude being rigorous, the method being precise and appropriate, paying attention to the evidence; the second section introduces the characteristics of demonstration, namely, debating with argument, using a variety of methods; the third section introduces the characteristics of quoting books, namely, quoting and proving fully, respecting both Han and Song dynasty’s academic.The fourth chapter:the value of Zuo Zhuan Fu Zhu. This chapter is divided into three sections:the first section introduces the pros and cons of Zuo Zhuan Fu Zhu, focusing on its defects; the second section introduces acceptance of the later scholars, especially its being cited by the later scholars.
