"On The Road" - On Zhang Chengzhi 's "Walking" Philosophy

Zhang Chengzi is a typical on-the-road writer, who is always traveling amongst riversand mountains, reflecting on life and ideal. This essay combs Zhang Chengzi’s writing coursewith the clue of ‘Road’. We interpret his creation posture as ‘Son of the Road’, his charactersand himself as ‘mental explorers on the road’. Thus we hope to open up a new path in theresearch field of Chengzi Zhang, and provide a new perspective.This essay elucidates Zhang Chengzi’s on-the-road creation spirit in three parts. The firstpart themed by ‘life on the road’ reviews Zhang Chengzi’s experiences and the influence ofeach period on the writer. We look into five aspects such as blood relationships, lifeexperiences, profession, personality, and philosophy of traveling, to understand why ZhangChengzi chose the writing conception of ‘on the road’. The second part themed as ‘soul on theroad’ focuses on Zhang Chengzi’s mental exploration of on-the-road writing. We strengthenout Zhang Chengzi’s spiritual journey, and his anxiety, struggling and pains. In the third partthemed by ‘writing on the road’we interpret Zhang Chengzi’s writing ideology, based on hisstrategy:‘the right way lies in the form of the writing object’. Different from academic writers,Zhang Chengzi persists on writing with hands-on experiences, namely, to go on field trips toexperience and feel the writing objects. Also different from writers who advocate positivismor degree zero writing, Zhang Chengzi devote all his passions to his writing objects. AndZhang Chengzhi has been looking for a suit and walking with the genre, different genres ofattempts to form a genre evolution.Zhang Chengzi’s creation spirit of ‘on the road’ is of revealing significance to chinesecontemporary literary world and contemporary culture. He stands for folk side, shows anoption of thinking outside the system, and is still purifying, conquering and transformingmodern minds.
