| In the perspective of religion theories, this paper mainly studies Buddha sarira belief by the way of historical investigation and religion theories, trying to provide reference for the study of religious beliefs.In the introduction the academic history of Buddha sarira belief is discussed.At first, this paper expounds the emergence of Buddhist stupas and the development of Buddha sarira belief in Ancient India. Moreover, the author introduces the status of Buddha sarira in Buddhist belief form and illustrates the status and influence of Buddha sarira in Ashoka period.The relation between Buddha sarira and Sectarian is put forward by arguing about the beneficence of supporting Buddha sarira in Sectarian Buddhism period.In addition, this paper discusses the ways and the development process of Buddha sarira into China as well as analyzes the psychological characteristics of Chinese people believing in Buddha sarira during the period when Buddha sarira came in.This paper focuses on illustrating Social belief of Buddha sarira in Sui, Tang and Song dynasties. Firstly, classifications of sarira induction in The Sarira Induction written by Wang Shao in Sui dynasty are carried out,two main of which are natural induction and physiological sensing. Furthermore, the referred contents of sarira induction are analyzed in association with religion theories. Secondly, sarira belief condition in Tang dynasty is discussed, analyzing the motivation of the rulers welcoming Buddha sarira bone and the changes of Buddha sarira belief in each social class,mainly manifested by secular and practical belief ways. Finally, ethical and life-oriented characteristics of Buddha sarira belief are anakyzed with sarira vows as the center. The last part is the key part.Buddha sarira belief is the most prominent Buddhist faith form, and there have been profound changes in belief ways and contents since it was introduced into China. Buddha sarira belief is an important part of studying the sinicized Buddhist belief. |
