"Shanshui" is an unique aesthetic idea in China,which is different from "nature"and "landscape".It refers to all the natural sceneries or artificial landscapes withhuman subjective emotional feeling,as an important aesthetic interest in Chinesetraditional culture. This article through the"Shan"and"Shui",which means "mountain"and "water" in the period before Tang dynasty, to discuss the origin of the connotationof the word "Shanshui". The "mountain" and "water" the words according to thedynasty,I divided the wods into4parts—the Pre-qin, Han, Wei, Jin,and Northernand southern dynasties, to discusse respectively. Found that the development of thewords consisted of "Shan"or"Shui" reached its climax in the Wei, Jin,Southern andnorthern dynasties.The number and contents of the word are far beyond otherdynasties before Tang. The aesthetic idea of "Shanshui" formed at this time gradually.On the one hand, because of the the internal driving in the literary aesthetic and someexternal reasons,as the development of political,economic and social trends,thevocabulary of "Shan" and "Shui" accumulated and the aesthetic idea of "Shanshui"formed.On the other hand, The formation of "shanshui"have deepened the implicationof the words,and promoted the development of "shanshui" poetry, thus created morewords about "shan","shui".As a new social ideological trend,the view of "shanshui"profit from the change of implication in nature,and also influence the meaning of"shanshui",that became more and more hazy.So there is a relationship between thelanguage,idea and the social ideological trend,they influence each other,and willtransform mutually under a certain conditions.
