The cultural differences in literary works lead to difficulties in translation. In the translation theories, discussions on cultural translation strategies basically grouped into domestication and foriegnization. Both of these two strategies have their own advantages and disadvantages.In the first part the author states the relations between language, culture and translation. Then the author analyzes five cultural factors may influence the choice of translation strategies, like religion, lifestyle, the way of thinking and traditional culture. In the main part of the thesis, the author groups the cultural difficulties in translation to five parts. In each part the difficulties and the choice of the translation strategy are analyzed.In the end the author reaches the conclusion that because of the complexity and variety of culture differences, a single translation strategy cannot satisfy the translation needs. Translators should combine both of domestication and foriegnization.
