With the rapid development of economy and technology, the whole world is becomingmore and more global and international. In the meantime, international cultural exchange isconstantly developing in various fields. All these factors lead to unprecedentedly fastdevelopment of tourism industry. Guide interpreting is a typical cross-cultural activity. Sothe author hopes to study the guide interpreting from the real experience, and to propose themost appropriate interpreting strategies so as to achieve intercultural communicationeffectively. All these will make a contribution to the Chinese guide interpreting theory andpractice.This report includes the following five parts. The first part gives a brief introduction tothe concept and the developing trend of guide interpreting as well as the significance of thisreport. Then in Chapter one, this report overviews the general information of this project,the preparation and some related backgrounds. Chapter Two discusses communicatingbarriers during guide interpreting. These communicating barriers come from the culturaldifferences, including differences in historical factors, social customs, religious beliefs andvalue concepts. And this part summarizes the real cases of cultural differences todemonstrate the huge influence of the cultural differences. The following Chapter Threeputs forward the interpreting strategies coping with cultural differences. The theories thatcan cope with the cultural differences are domestication and foreignization. And there aredialectical and complementary relationships between domestication and foreignization.Then this report proposes applications of domestication and foreignization in guideinterpreting strategies. There are four strategies: changing cultural images, removingconfusing and insignificant information, directly interpreting Chinese terms and addingimplied information after literal interpretation. The last part of this report is conclusion. Itmentions the means to avoid the barriers caused by cultural differences during guideinterpreting and also proposes some inspirations for the future interpreting work. All thesewill have a guiding function in interpreting work in the future.
