With the discussing of lyrical tradition represented in the Mid and Late Tang Legend as the crucial breakthrough, using of narratology to analysis and discuss the text of the Tang Legends meticulously, this paper try to explore its unique generic significance in Chinese literary history. Tang legend not only provides stories for people to rewrite and pass down, but also has become a particularly aesthetic genre itself. The emergence of Tang Legends has deep relationship with other tradition lyrical genres. In fact, classic legends mainly appeared in Middle to Late Tang dynasty when mastering different genres was much appreciated. The historical context made this genre has both aesthetic characteristics derived from history and poetry tradition.The existing cross-genre studies often face difficulties in using combined approaches. To avoid that dilemma, this paper analyze Tang Legend’s poetic aesthetic value from the’lyric tradition’view which has become a systematic and comprehensive theory system and can be extensively used crossing traditional genres.This article comprises of five chapters. With the topic of Tang Legend’s aesthetic feature, we review the previous studies in this field and probe some basic problems. The second chapter discusses historical background-the Mid Tang literary revolution and demonstrate the existence of poetry feature in Tang legend. Focusing on the analysis of several masterpieces, The Third chapter testifies the inner relationship between Tang Legend and other genres. The Fourth chapter analyzes the profound cultural connotation embodied in the stories. What’s more, I made a comparison between dream legends and modern Western fiction masterpiece’Don Quixote’ which proves that Tang legend contains certain modern novel spiritual values. The fifth chapter discusses another source of Tang Legend’s aesthetic feature ChuCl and set Shen Yazhi’s dream legend as object and demonstrates a strong autobiographical tendency in Tang legends.
