Experience And Exploration Of Emotional Temperature In Urban Ruins

This thesis is an extension of my undergraduate thesis which had a topic about “to build space direction in movie”. To analysis the influence of the existence of space on human’s emotion, to bring a temperature concept of space. This temperature could be the experience of a person, the evocation of a memory or unconscious act of imagined space based on some old experiences.In the introduction, I mentioned the reason for choosing this subject as well as my wish to enhance the emotion of my work through the explosion of space temperature and ruins temperature.In the second chapter, I analysis some works of artists by photographs, videos and interaction devices concerning time and space. This inspire me to systematically understand the emotional impact to a person from some environment or memory. Such memory brings physical experience to us and some inspiration occur to me by its form and expression.The third chapter introduces the space of my work of creation. I chose some ruined sites around Beijing and some places to be ruins. It includes amusement park under construction, dumped park, small river full of dirty water, wood market just with empty booths as well as the little village I have lived for five years. Some of the places I visited for the first time, some are very familiar to me. I wrote my feelings and experience about them even it is the first time visiting. It makes me feel inexplicable warm about the quiet atmosphere like time standing still. I believe they share the common ground. We see lots of remarks from their silence.The forth chapter I described the view direction on these ruined spaces like being an old friend of them. I also hope to bring a piece of warm to them from my visit and my work.I believe art is not any existence beyond daily life. I hope we can learn more about our daily life through studying the art emotional temperature, to make art a part of our lives.
