Idiom, an important part of Chinese vocabularies, which is regarded as aconcentrated reflection of the Chinese culture history, is a vital window to understandand learn Chinese culture for foreign students.By investigating the students of the university of Chiang Mai, Thailand,analyzing the bias errors what students of Chiang Mai university make duringlearning idioms, and combining with the experience of Chinese teachers from ChiangMai University, this article finds reasonable principles and methods to handle theproblems that teachers encounter in teaching Chinese idioms. Then it makessuggestion about teaching content, teaching level and teaching method.There are six parts in this article:The first part summarizes the research status, the meaning and purpose ofteaching Chinese idioms, and expounds the research methods used by the author.In the part two, author finds the reasons why the students make some mistakes instudying idioms and gives relevant suggestions by the questionnaire investigationfrom Chinese Department’s students at Chiang Mai University.The third part gives some advices according to the data which is reached byanalyzing the teaching materials used by in Chinese Department of Chiang MaiUniversity.The fourth part uses the questionnaire form to obtain the teaching experience inthe teaching Chinese procedure of Chiang Mai UniversityIn the part five, author puts forward some own suggestions and strategies aimingat the common problems in Chinese idioms teaching.The sixth part summarizes the main research content of this article, and draws theconclusion.
