A Comparative Study Of Folk Funeral Rites In Liaoning And Shandong Provinces

The communication between cultures has promoted the progress of the humansociety, enriched and developed the culture connotation of our own nation, andenhanced the culture character and mental shackles of the whole nation as well. InChina, Shandong and Liaoning Province have deep historical origin. Culturecommunication between the two province haven’t stopped from the period of dividinginto administrative area at the beginning of Chinese civilization to the mass migrationto the Northeast in the modern times.This article will start from introducing Liaoning and Shandong Funeral Music,analyzing the origin of the history and culture, process of funeral ceremony as well asthe drumming morphology. After that, this article will make comparison and researchabout the beat and drum music of Shandong and Liaoning Province, from theperspective of history, genre, playing style and the use of instrumental music.Funeral music in Shandong and Liaoning Province is one of the traditionalcustoms that born in the long process of communication between the two places,which has thick traditional historical precipitation. As the main part of the funeralmusic, beat and drum music has always been paid much attention. Beat and drummusic in Shandong and Liaoning, as a very important branch of the whole nation, haschanged a lot during the migration and cultural exchange. There exist both similarityand difference. The Study of Liaoning and Shandong funeral music had started sincethe middle of the last century. Various of literatures about funeral music, beat anddrum music emerged and made great progress. With the deepening of the research,there are many questions about the relationship and difference between Liaoning andShandong beat and drum music had also been put forward constantly.Through fieldwork investigation, combined with literature review, the writertried to compare the differences and similarities among the human condition, funeralceremony and the funeral music in Shandong and Liaoning Province. The research isvaluable to the development, applicaiton and relationship of funeral ceremony musicin the two places.This first chapter of the article describes the history origin between Shandongand Liaoning, list some large migrations in the two places and the impact of regionalculture to Liaoning. It states the relationship between the two regions from historicalculture to customs. The second chapter summarizes the funeral ceremony processbetween Liaoning and Shandong, comparing the similarities and differences, andanalyze the reasons of these rituals from the aspects of history and culture. Chapters3and4is the key chapter of this article. Chapters3describes the use of music in theprocess of funeral ceremony. This chapter analyzes the similarities and differencesthrough the analysis of music-using in different link of the whole ceremony. Chapter3also summarizes the function about the music on the ceremony by researching theapplication of beat and drum instrument, studying the application of drum musicceremony. Chapters4mainly analyzes the concrete forms of Liaoning and Shandong funeral music features, and researches the reasons for the formation of theirmorphological characteristics. The article concluded that whether funeral ritual musicis convergence or divergence on the evolution of history, and it analyze the origin ofcultural style.
