A Study Of Xu Fuguan 's View Of Chinese Culture

Xu Fuguan (1903-1982) had plentiful writings all his life, he researched Chinese traditional culture especially the Confucianism very well, is one of the representatives of "modern new Confucianism". This thesis intends to study on the subject of Xu Fuguan’s Chinese culture, combined with Xu Fuguan’s own life background, academic origin, to discusse Xu Fuguan’s view on Chinese culture, in order to know Xu Fuguan’s unique views on Chinese traditional culture clearly.This thesis consists of four parts.The introduction part is mainly to collect, sort out and summarize recent research about Xu Fuguan’s thought, as a research review.The first chapter is Xu Fuguan’s life and background of the times,divided into two sections to elaborate.The first section introduces Xu Fuguan’s life and writings briefly, mainly in the memorabilia, grasp Xu Fuguan’s introduction, summary of his life profile, to see Xu Fuguan’s temperament, academic and achievement in such large outline shape, can also see clearly in his love of Chinese culture. The second section is based on the first section, to describe Xu Fuguan’s Chinese cultural ideas in origin, analysis and research mainly from his academic accumulation, academic origin, and then we can understand the important position of Chinese culture in Xu Fuguan’s academic career.The second chapter is the content of Xu Fuguan’s view on Chinese culture. The first section describes Xu Fuguan Chinese culture essence of concept, from the definition and origin of culture, to have a preliminary understanding of Xu Fuguan’s view on culture. Next is Xu Fuguan’s discussion on Chinese cultural’s content and basic clues of development. Finally understand the basic content of Chinese culture and its importance in the world culture from the comparative study of Chinese and Western culture of Xu Fuguan. The second section is the cultural characteristics of China which is by Xu Fuguan summaried, including Chinese cultural nature, attach importance to practice, and the political development closely and hierarchical nature four aspects. The third section is the thinking about Chinese culture development direction of Xu Fuguan,which mainly include carrying forward the Confucian culture and learning western civilization two reasons. From the research of this chapter,we can be aware of the basic content of Xu Fuguan’s view on Chinese culture.The third chapter is the characteristic and evaluation of Xu Fuguan’s view on Chinese culture.The first section summarized the features of Xu Fuguan’s view on Chinese culture,include two aspects:Chinese cultural oriented theory and strong political concern. The second section is the evaluation of Xu Fuguan’s view on Chinese culture,to summarize his view on Chinese culture,and then through the thinking to clarify the influence and significance of Xu Fuguan’s view on Chinese culture.
