| The informative book Guide to Chinese introduced Chinese culture in detail by means of classification, but it was without an English edition. Chapter 30, “The Importation of Christianity and Islam and the Communication of Chinese and Foreign Culture” introduced the development of Christianity since the Tang Dynasty. Through analyzing the characteristics and difficulties of the passage the author summarized some translation strategies related to the Chinese cultural words, serial verb construction and telescopic form and the attribute and adverbial in Chinese sentences. In addition the author solves the problems regarding words, sentences by using annotation, literal translation, free translation, etc. The author hopes to provide reference for the translation of articles introducing Chinese culture, especially the religious culture articles. The paper will also help Chinese and foreign readers know clearly about the eastward spread of Christianity and Islam. |
