In the 1930 s, Riichi Yokomitsu is one of the most popular novelists,he occupies the important position in the history of Japanese modern literature. As the soul of the“new sensation”,Riichi Yokomitsu created many well-known works of the “new sensation”, “Shanghai” is one of the representative works of the “new sensation”.This thesis aims to “Shanghai” as the center to analysis of the nihilistic thoughts of Riichi Yokomitsu in the novel. The first part is through the reason why Riichi Yokomitsu went to Shanghai and the reasons for the creation of “Shanghai” to clarify the original intention of the “Shanghai”. The second part is on the basis of combing the May 30 th movement, from a series of distortion of the May 30 th movement of China in the “Shanghai” and repeated convert of the draft to detailed analysis the nihilistic effect of Riichi Yokomitsu’s literary creation. The third part is based on the text of “Shanghai”, through three characters of the novel to expound nihilistic thoughts of the performance in the text creation. The fourth part is through Riichi Yokomitsu’s life experience, the social environment of Japan, and the influence of Japanese classic literature to explore the reasons of the formation of his nihilism thought.
