Souseki Natsume was Japanese National write. He erected such a magnificent monument both in the history of modern Japanese literature. In his 12 years career, he created 15 novels, two critical works and a lot of essays, Chinese poems, haikus and critical essays. "The heart " is a novel in his old age, but also a master of all the works. This paper analyzed the character of Shizu in Souseki Natsume’s novel Heart. Shizu is the new women living in the Meiji era who is the novel’s key figures. On the surface Shizu is refracted as gentle, considerate but has rich emotion in heart from the eyes of "I",K and the teacher. She has insightful look at things and understanding ability, she even has an independent personality. Shizu is not completely pure or a strategist, she is also not a woman who is good at playing men. She just takes important of the calm heart. The character of Shizu meets the standard of the ideal type of women in Natsume’s mind, and this reflects the writer’s feminism of "nature of female identity" and "focus on women’s awakening". The calm heart of Shizu not only manifestes the calm and confident, but also transcends Souseki Natsume’s view of women.
