On The Particularity Of The Duties Of University Art Museum

As a part of the complete museum system, university museum has began to show its importance and has became an essential research subject. University museum bears both the spirit of its university and the culture of museumology. At the same time, the outgoing and interactive research and educational idea differs university museum from normal university and museum, which makes this subject worth deeper research and discussion.There are three sections in this paper. The first section starts from the duty and development of museum by retrospecting the birth of university museum and explaining that university museum has its diverse responsibility comparing with other art museums; the second section starts from the theory of producing knowledge, focuses on analyzing the relation between research and education for university museum, and further explain the two essential duties under the concept of university museum; the third section lists examples of the most famous university museums in China and other countries, explains the unique construction, collections, display and audience due to the special duties of university museum.However, investigating the special duties of university museum does not exclude it from normal art museum. This paper is written to make connections and distinguish the difference between university and normal museum, to explain the pros and cons that is introduced by the special duties, and to help make theoretical distributions to the development of university museum.
