A Study On The Discourse Of Doctor - Patient Communication

Discourse can be classified depending on the different purpose or focus to the study. From the perspective of social relations, the discourse can be classified into different discourse communities such as the personal discourse and public discourse, personal communication and group interaction communication. From the perspective of social industry categories, the discourse can be classified into different "industry words", such as politics, economy, diplomacy, education, media, medical, law, etc. My paper will choose to study on doctor-patient discourse, out of the concern of health care industry at the present and the sensitive social relations between doctors and patients and then to explore the characteristics of discourse from the perspective of interpersonal communication and to analyze the influence of the attitude towards patients and put forward effective countermeasures. For a long time, there are some researches on doctor-patient communication, however in current tense doctor-patient relationship environment, my study will have some new meaning. In the spread of mass media images of doctors and patients against a review of image doctor, may through the discourse between each doctor-patient communication, to heal patients pain of body and mind, to change patients’ attitude, minimizing the doctor-patient contradiction, the doctor-patient relationship in the long run, the benign development of the doctor-patient relationship. The essay can be divided into five parts, the first part is introduction to the background of research, point out the meaning and intention of research and list out the main study methods containing Literature synthesis, study status and main results tracing as well as review information collecting and questionnaire researching. The second part is basic study of dialogue discourse forms between doctors and patients, including the conception defining, Commonly used form and characteristics of discourse between doctors and patients. The third parts are mainly on the relation study between communication and patients attitudes. The analysis is from the angel of establishment and converting of patients attitudes. Through quoting attitude module in communication theory and combining with questionnaire, I try to study different influence of doctor’s discourse on patient in order to put forward improving strategy. The fourth chapter is talking about cultural forms and contents of discourse between doctors and patients. I stand on the analysis of cultural contents lying behind the dialogue and try to dig further for bettering strategy of communication between doctors and patients. The fifth chapter is the last part of the paper which concludes the verbal action theory, collaborative principle and attitudes persuasion. In summary, this paper is a correlation study in the form of discourse between doctors and patients and attitudes of the latter and as a conclusion to put forward communication countermeasures under the Contextual analysis.
