Asymmetry and Markedness by Shen Jianxuan is a pioneering work about a theory of markedness and its application in the study of Chinese grammar. The publication of this book provides a new perspective for the study of parts of speech at in Chinese at home and abroad. Based on the markedness theory, the markedness patterns related to adjectives are established in chapter eleven — The Markedness Pattern of Syntactic Functions of Adjectives. Thus this chapter was selected as translation material.This text is an academic work. To ensure that its English version is also objective and academic, the author solves problems met in translation by using translation strategies such as choice of subjects, splitting long sentences and tries to explore strategies for the translation of linguistic terminologies and long Chinese sentences with an view to providing some references for the translation of this kind of text.
