A Study Of Translation Behavior In The Context Of Wittgenstein 's Later Philosophy Of Language

Wittgenstein is one of the most creative philosophers in the twentieth century. His later thoughts concentrated on daily languages. Meanwhile, he proposed the meaning theory of "Meaning is use" in his later period, which is the main idea of his later thoughts. The translation mainly involves the corresponding transformation of meaning from one language to another. Therefore, this dissertation connects Wittgenstein’s later thoughts with the translation behavior to analyze how Wittgenstein’s later thoughts enlighten the translation behavior. It takes the two completely translated versions as the corpus in order to prove the viewpoints of this dissertation with concrete texts. The arguments specifically analyze how the three concepts, which are "language game", " form of life " and " Meaning is use ", enlighten the translation behavior from the angle of philosophy of language, aiming at finding the deep theoretical foundation for the translation discipline. This dissertation adopts the method of combining the qualitative analysis with the quantitative analysis and the corpus-based approach to research how Wittgenstein’s later thoughts enlighten the translation behavior on the basis of the subjectivity of translator, the cultural vacancy in translation and the dynamic co-occurrence contexts. In conclusion, Wittgenstein’s later thoughts as a kind of philosophical thought could provide guidance for the translation theory and practice on a macro level of philosophy of language, which could find the theoretical foundation for the translation behavior from the perspective of philosophy. On a micro level, it could enlighten the the translators to overcome the problem of cultural vacancy by way of removing the imagery, transforming the imagery and adding the imagery, which could assist the translators in translating the texts to make a better cultural exchange.
