Pride is a typical positive self-conscious emotion that plays a critical role in many domains of psychological functioning. This research aims to study the effect of pride on self-worth and whether social comparison regulates it.Research One uses questionnaire to study the effect of pride on self-worth. The questionnaire consists of two parts: pride trait and college students’ self-worth. All participants are chosen from college students. According to experimental data, it is easy to find the regression equation between pride trait and self-worth, which presents clearly that authentic pride trait has a positive significant impact on self-worth, while hubristic pride takes the other way around.Research Two uses experimental manipulation to test the influence of different pride status(based on the momentary pride status from participants) on self-worth. This experiment causes participants to have two kinds of pride status through scene design. According to statistic analysis, the author draws such a conclusion that pride status has a significant impact on self-worth. After multiple comparisons shows that there exists significant difference between authentic pride status and control group, while the hubristic pride status and authentic pride status takes the other way around. What’s more, the difference between hubristic pride status and control group is not significant.Research Three uses Selective Accessibility Model to test the effect of two pride types under social situation on self-worth. The 2×3 between-participants experiment design was used in this experiment. Independent variable one is comparative information consisting of high level called high standard comparative information and low level called low standard comparative information. Comparative information refers to an introduction of theoretical college students’ mental arithmetic. High standard comparative information is endowed with higher mental arithmetic ability and vice verse. Independent variable two is induced pride including authentic pride, hubristic pride and non-feedback. One third of independent variable one accepts authentic pride feedback, one third accepts hubristic pride feedback and the last accepts non-feedback by this analogy.Through statistic analysis, the author makes the following conclusions:(1) Under high level of social comparison, the self-worth from hubristic pride group is higher than authentic pride status group and the control group, which is the same with the low standard social comparison.(2) The effect of different pride status on self-worth is significant as well as the significant influence from comparative way, while the interaction effect between pride status and comparative way is not significant.(3) Pride has different impact on self-worth from six domains under the effect of self-worth.Finally,we can summarize that:(1) Authentic pride has a positive significant impact on self-worth, has a negative insignificant impact.(2) The impact of pride to self-worth is regulated by social comparison, the most significant impact on self-worth is hubristic pride-low standard social comparison.(3) Self-worth under low standard social comparison is higher, compare to high level of social comparison,...
