The Study Of The Effects Of Pride On Empathy For Pain

Empathy for pain is an important psychological phenomenon and a typical form of empathy in our lives.It refers to the individual's perception of other people's pain,judgments and emotional reactions.Empathy for pain is impacted by the psychological,physical,social and personal emotions.Studies have shown that the basic positive emotions will promote Empathy for the pain of others.However,there is still less researches on the impact of self-conscious emotion on empathy for pain.Pride is a positive emotional experience that brings achievement events to their own efforts or abilities.Likewise,it is unclear whether pride,as a typical positive self-conscious emotion and basic positive emotions,has a positive effect on empathy for pain.Pride is generally considered to have two dimensions including Hubristic pride and Authentic pride.There are no studies showing that the two dimensions have the same effect on pain affection.Based on this,the purpose of this study is to explore the impact of pride in pain on empathy,and analyzes the different impact of hubristic pride and authentic pride on Empathy for pain.This study includes two behavioral experiments.Experiment 1 recruited 63 students from Tianjin Normal University.The success-failure manipulation is used to induce pride.It used mixed design-----(emotional type grouping:pride,no obvious emotional awakening(control group))x(task:pain picture,non-pain picture).At the same time,it reveals the influence of pride on empathy.Experiment 2 recruited 88 students from Tianjin Normal University.It uses the imagine task to induce hubristic pride and authentic pride.by the use of(emotional type group:hubristic pride,authentic,no obvious emotional awakening(control group))mixed design,it explores the two dimensions of pride,that is,the impact of the hubristic pride and authentic on Empathy for pain.The painful empathetic material is the collection of hands and feet on the living scene picture(Meng Jing,2010)including pairs of pain pictures and non-pain pictures.Experimental results:1.Success-failure manipulation and imagine task method significantly induced the corresponding emotional experience2.The response time to pain picture was significantly lower than that of non-pain picture.3.The response time of the proud emotion group to the pain picture judgment task was significantly lower than that of the group no obvious emotion group.4.The response of the authentic group group to the pain picture judgment task was significantly lower than that of the hubristic pride.5.The hubristic pride,authentic and no obvious emotional group are no significant difference in response time to non-pain pictures.Experimental conclusions:People's judging speed to pain scenes is faster than that to non-pain scenes.This means that people will be more sensitive when facing dangerous sense,which is beneficial for protecting themselves.Pride has a positive effect on pain,which shows that a positive self-conscious emotion and positive basic emotions have a positive impact on empathy for pain.The role of pride in emotional affection is mainly reflected in the authentic pride.Hubristic pride does not reflect the positive impact on pain.This is in accordance with the pride and pro-social behavior,the authentic pride will mobilize more psychological resources to pay attention to others.And the hubristic pride is reverse.
