Research On Chinese Piano Music Creation In The Early 21st Century

As the king of instrumental music, piano possesses the position in world music history to be reckoned with, and it is also the indispensable important element in music art development. The development of Chinese piano music art has hundreds years of history. However, as one typical western musical instrument, the development of piano in China was not smooth. It formally entered creation development stage until the initial stage of 20 th century after experiencing continuous learning. The first half of 20 th century was the turbulent period of China’s national conditions, and piano scholars and composers at that time did not stop exploration on Chinese piano music undertaking. On the contrary, it had gradual prosperous trend. The preliminarily prosperous Chinese piano art undertaking entered development stagnation period until the beginning of the Cultural Revolution, and with the advent of opening up and reform, it burst forth unlimited potential and then entered diversified development stage.Entering the 21 st century, with the occurrence of “globalization” concept, the fields including Chinese politics, science, economy and culture exhibited unprecedented prosperous scene. This stage mainly developed focusing on “innovation”, and the things belonging to Chinese people became more and more. Although the slogan of “carrying forward traditional Chinese culture” was put forward in culture, the “most advanced culture” pointed out explicit progress direction for 21 st century Chinese culture. Chinese piano music and creation also had change thereupon, and more new creation techniques and creation contents were widely used by composers.After referring to large amounts of treatises related to Chinese piano music artistic creation and relevant literature data, gathering and systemizing most piano music works of this stage, this paper plans to follow historical route to conduct gradual in-depth research on 21 st century Chinese piano music creation taking piano composers and their piano works as entry point and starting from the profile of the era, style form, and music style. The objective of the research is aimed at explicitly and objectively exhibiting the development process of Chinese music creation during such 10-odd years, and being explicit on its important position in overall Chinese contemporary piano music artistic creation process and Chinese contemporary music creation. It is also hoped to provide help for piano learners and enthusiasts.
