Exploring Chinese Piano Music Compositions Of The Early 21st Century

This paper is a preliminary study of the composition of Chinese piano music of the early 21st century. Based on examination and contemplation of different stages of development of both western and Chinese piano music of the last century, and by reviewing characteristics of originality, suitability, nostalgia, story-telling, literature, non-regionalism, themes, and atmosphere of newly published Chinese piano pieces, this paper offers insights into the ethnical, modern and individualist nature and development trends of Chinese piano music of the new century. Against the backdrop of globalization and cultural diversification, this paper expands on the integration of western and Chinese composition techniques and conceptual ideas that aims to convey the traditional Chinese musical culture and philosophy in a unique and novel way. In addition, the author hopes that this paper will contribute to the strengthening of the Chinese piano music composition framework and the promotion of piano music education in China.
