I choose Israel drama “Requiem” as my MFA graduation repertoire. This play is adapted byIsrael dramatist Hannuohe Levin from the famous Russian writer Chekhov’s three novels:Rothschild’ Violin, Trouble, and In the Valley. Besides, it is also the last work directed by Levin inhis all life. This play talks about several stories about death happened a couple of weeks before thedeath of a74years old man. It has been performed for three times in our country and gained veryhigh evaluation among Chinese people. Up to now, there is no other theater college which hasdirected the drama.I am deeply touched by its reasonable thinking on “life”“death” and “love”. The situation ofeveryone in the play is focused on the death itself. The dramatist doesn’t show terrible deaths buthow the characters face the death. As the name implies,“Requiem” means “May the soul rest inpeace.” And “Song” add more poetic meaning to the whole play. The paper describes my overallconception on the rehearsal in detail, which includes: process of creation and adaptation, theme, and practical significance of the play; process of establishment, style, performance form; stagespace, performance order, and character analysis.
