Using shadow as main the oriental literature study is less among the Chinese traditional painting. Western art ideas were known until modern Chinese. Academics are gradually accepting the teaching ideas of "Combination of Chinese and western; Sustaining innovations" based on realism, and gradually got full display in art works. Compared with the mature and complete theory of light and shadow of oil painting. There is less theoretical literature research based on shadow in traditional Chinese painting. With the increase of photographic technology and the improvement of equipment, more and more artists are creating through the photos. The study of light is far beyond visual level; more and more new forms of Chinese paintings are shown in the world. Therefore it is particularly important to sort out and record the works of Chinese painting which applying lighting effects. This paper not only analyzes the development of light and shadow in modern Chinese painting but also retraces the ancients’ understanding of light. Trying to provide a new direction for the creation of their own through complete development of light. This paper is discussing the application of light in the Chinese painting from the scientific theory of light and shadow, the relation between light and shadow and the influence of light and shadow on Chinese painting elements according to my creative narrative experience.This paper is starting from the scientific point of view, analyzing principle of light and shadow applied in painting, and deconstructing artist’s works in different times from the perspective of painting, analyzing the concept of light, color composition and painting technique of their works, exploring the possibilities of light and shadow in the creation of contemporary Chinese painting through different kinds of works.
