The development of the forms of marriage of Yi minority are as follows:theancient marriage between brothers and sisters-the clan exogamy-thedual marriage-monogamy.Traditional forms of marriage of Yi minority in different periods are introduced by "Le Eliot", "Meige", "Chamu".They describe the origin and development of the marriage of Yi minority.Based on these descriptions and my own field work, I try to figure out further how forms of marriage of Yi minority change.The first chapter is an introduction. It includes the significance of this topic, related research, research methods and some related literatures.The second chapter is about the marriage between brothers and sisters.This chapter is divided into three sections which are the origin of the marriage between brothers and sisters, what this kind of marriage is and comparison between this kind of marriage and marriage of Fuxi and Nvwa.The third chapter is about theclan exogamy of matriarchal society.It is divided into four sectionsincluding matriarchal society introduced by literatures written by Yi language, specific contents of the clan exogamy, girl room (a historical remain ofthe clan exogamyof Matriarchal society) and comparison with walking marriage.The fourth chapter is about thedual marriage of patriarchal society. It is divided into four sections which are the origin of dual marriage in patriarchal society, background of modern slave society of Yi minority, marriage system and marriage customs. This chapter mostly introduces family exogamy, rank endogamy, polygamy, arranged marriage and some special marriage customs, such as etiquette before wedding and bride kidnapping and so on.The fifth chapter is about the status ofcontemporary form of marriage of Yi minority. This chapter is divided into six sections which are background of contemporary society of Yi minority, self-awareness of marriage of Yi minority, different views of traditional marriage customs, modern marriage customs, traditional remains and people of Yi minority intermarried with people of other nationalities. Besides, based on my own field work, I also describe some changes of marriage system of Yi minority.The sixth chapter is the conclusion.I try to use knowledge oflinguistics, ethnology, folklore and anthropology to research the culture of marriage in different periods of Yi minority on the basis of previous studies。Concepts of marriage of Yi are changing, and many traditional concepts are weakening. However, a big part of featured traditional culture of marriage continue to carry on and retain.
