The main purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the importance of " shock aesthetics" Benjamin’s idea of status in the history of western modern art. Even though the theory of Benjamin just focused on and thought about art phenomenon in the first half of the 20 th century, but the theory of "shock aesthetics " had the value of prospective and prediction, because as a theorist who was the first person focused on the "shock" effect of art, the variety of artistic practice in western modern and contemporary art was a confirm and an interpretation about the theory of "shock aesthetics". The paper is divided into four parts, mainly from the following four aspects to explore Benjamin’s "shock aesthetics" theory, the first part traces the origin of the word "shocked" in western philosophy, the demonstration mainly from two aspects: Jaspers’ s thinking of philosophy and Benjamin’s thinking of aesthetic; The second part is the most important sections of this paper which mainly interpret the theory "shock aesthetics, the demonstration of this section from by comparing two kinds of social existence mode: "experience" and "experience", as well as by implicating the concept of "halo" to examine the concept of "shock" meaning; The third part is analyze the practice and interpretation of "shock aesthetics" theory in the western modern and contemporary art, mainly from the artistic practice of modernism and postmodernism to relate and analyze, the former is through the effect of "shocked" overturns traditional rule in art, the latter is through the effect of "shocked" overturns art; The fourth part discusses the reflect on western modern and contemporary art from the dimensionality of "shock aesthetics".
