The study on Chinese material Medicine, which has close contact with the development of hermeneutic, is an important part of it. Ben Cao Gang Mu. a book written by Li Shizhen in Ming Dynasty, was well known as a master work in the field of the study on Chinese material Medicine, and definitely should not be underestimated in that field. A list of " Shiming" was firstly proposed in this book. and changed the conventional classification method, which had been used for thousands of years. In addition, this book cited a large number of exegeses of ancient materials from pre-Qin period to Ming Dynasty, and used a variety of methods to explain, which is of great value in the study of hermeneutic, and the exegesis of ancient texts, and lexicography, and Medicine.The lisit of Shiming in Cao Bu of Ben Cao Gang Mu represents the most remarkable part of this book, which includes 610 noun words, being chosen as the study object in this paper. And the author will explore the issue from several aspects including the cognition of semantic system, the discussion of the relationship between the name and reality and the explanation of those noun words. These aspects are covered to analyze the semantic field of noun words, the motivation between "name" and "object",and this paper will also summarize the features, methods and value of Li Shizhen’s explanation.Besides the introduction and conclusion, this paper consists of the following four parts:Chapter One is about the cognition of semantic system in Ben Cao Gang Mu.Cao Bu. Firstly, the author will introduce the semantic field theory and the theory of cognitive linguistics adopted in this thesis, and then use them to analyze the semantic field of the 610 noun words, and at last make a comparison with the modern botany. Three features of the semantic field in Ben Cao Gang Mu.Cao Bu can be concluded. First feature is the scientificity. which makes the classification scientific and rigour:second one is the tractability, which reflects the complexity of cognitive semantics:and the third is the abundance, which shows the rich righteous class.Chapter Two deals with the relationship between its "name " and "reality" in Ben Cao Gang Mu Cao Bu. First the thesis conducts statistical analysis, finding that his cognition of naming motivation tended to be diversified and complicated and also its naming approaches take on the feature of " function " oriented. Then the thesis analyzes the reasons behind the phenomenon of homonym and synonym.Chapter Three is about the study of the explanation of those noun words in Ben Cao Gang Mu.Cao Bu. Li Shizhen’s explanation has its own characteristics, which means that he used another different name to refer to the object and he put forward his own views by summarizing all the other explanations to distinguish them. Besides, he combined the traditional methods in hermeneutic with the methods used in explaining Chinese material Medicine, such as using the meanings, the sounds, the dialect and ancient or modern languages to explain things and summarizing all the other explanations to explain the words, which made his explanation much more comprehensive and accurate.Chapter Four discusses the value and shortcomings of the explanations in Ben Cao Gang Mu.Cao Bu. Li Shizhen’s Ben Cao Gang Mu is of value and has made great contribution in giving explanations to things, which is mainly embodied in its scientific meaning system, the variety of methods, and also the value to the study of lexicography. Considering the limitation in the times.this paper will also simply discuss some shortcomings of it.
