On The Semantic And Cultural Connotations Of Chinese Military Idioms

Military idioms are one of large idiom category with many specific features. Military idioms as the research object, this paper will first define the military idioms, and the same time, giving two principles to judge what is military idioms. Besides, the paper studied the meaning of military equipment words, the idiom etymology and its structure mode, the semantic content and culture are also the research object.To some idioms that deep meaning can’t be understand by the literal meaning, according to the meaning of the word and etymology, the paper provided two principles to judge military idioms. The first principle requires morpheme meaning of idioms composition words should be related to the military. And the same time, the etymology of righteousness should be related to the military too. Words related to military include weapon words like Mao, Ge, Ji, Yue, etc., Also include words like Che, Ma, Chong, etc.,some command word like Jing, Gu, Pei, Ya and some words like Yin, Shi, LU, Zu and some fortification words like Cheng, Chi, Lei which are also related to the military. The second principle for some idioms which don’t include morpheme or words are relate to military. If the etymology of righteousness of those type of idioms are related to military, it can also be regarded as the military idioms. The two principles can help to confirm the range of research.Understanding the meaning of the idioms composition words is the foundation of accurate understanding meaning of military idioms. Military idioms has a large of military equipment words, including Mao, Ge, Ji, Qiang and other weapons words. There are some words such as Gong, Nu, Shi, Jia, Zhou are also can be regarded as military equipment words. Some words like Jiao, Jing, Qi, Jin were used in ancient battle to express message, those words are also can be regarded as military equipment words.The article also studied of military idioms etymology of righteousness and its structure mode. Through the analysis of the corpus, the paper found there are lots of military idioms came from the books on the art of war, works of thought and their exponents, history book, literature, etc.. Generalized, harvesting, collapses are the main types of idioms etymology formations.This article use idioms mediation symbol theory to clear the concept of the idioms internal form. At the same time, the paper analyzed the internal form of some descriptive idioms. According to the theory of idiom internal form, these idioms can be divided into four categories, such as expression, behavior, way, atmosphere. On the analysis of idioms internal form is the same to analyze the idiom semantic content. The internal form of the idiom is native people based on their own experience, building the image to observe idioms from a particular way and the perspective of a specific angle.Idioms contains the rich culture, this paper in the perspective of cultural linguistics, by exploring the culture of the military idiom load information, we can find the cautious battle thought, strategy thought and values to choice wise general staff and ancient etiquette culture.
