A Comparative Study Of Chinese And Japanese Fonts Design Competition

As an indispensable part of modern design, Kanji font design’s diverse forms andconnotation has aroused widespread concern of the worldwide designers. To cope with differentmedia carriers, Kanji font design should bring forth the new from the old, creating fonts thatmeet current applications and aesthetic. As a newly rising design competition, Kanji font designcompetition has attracted numerous designers’ attention with its profession and applicability, andreflects the degree of attention throughout the design industry. With its unique orientation andsignificance,Kanji font design competition stands out in numerous design competitons, andbecomes one of the most striking design event.The topic of this paper is the Kanji font design competition of China and Japan,based onwhich further study and discuss has been made.Based on the Kanji font competitions of Chinaand Japan,studies and discusses representatives of Kanji font design competition of China andJapan. Based on the above research, through the comparison between the Chinese Kanji fontdesign and Japanese Kanji font design,it concludes the present situation and problems of ChineseKanji font design, throwing out suggestions about how to drive the development of ChineseKanji font design by Kanji font design competition.The main content of this thesis is divided into following parts:In the introduction of this paper, it gives emphasis on the analysis of comparative studies ofKanji font design competition of China and Japan, introducing the background, goal and thesignificance, emphasis, difficulties, innovations and main methods of the research, demonstratingthe necessity of comparative study of Kanji font design competition of China and Japan throughvarious of aspects.The first chapter is the theoretical basis of the research. It discusses the origin, developmentand evolution of the Kanji font of China and Japan, and analyses the different aestheticinfluences by ideology,culture and environment, which lays the root foundation for thedevelopment of mutual influence.The second chapter of this part, it divides the development of Chinese and Japanese Kanjifont design into three periods,that is woodblock printing,movable printing as well asphotocomposition and desktop publishing,and concludes characteristics of each priod. It alsointroduces the representative fonts in Chinese and Japanese Kanji font design. The third chapter is the main content of the paper, it mainly studies the Chinese and JapaneseKanji representative font design competition.At first, it selects each of three representativecompetitions of China and Japan,respectively introducing the general situation andcharacteristics.Then it compares with the setting and works of the competition by two aspects,analyzing different features of the Chinese and Japanese Kanji font design competition, findingthe practical problems that exist in the Kanji font design competition, which provides realisticbasis for the following study of the current situation of Chinese Kanji font design.In the fourth chapter, combined with the research and analysis of the previous chapters,compared with Japanese Kanji font design, it concludes the advantages and existing problemsand analyses the causes of the problems. This part lays the foundation for promoting thedevelopment of Chinese Kanji font desgin.In the fifth chapter, through the Chinese and Japanese Kanji font design competition and thestudy of Chinese Kanji font design’s status, it proposes the improvement of the Chinese Kanjifont design competition, puts forward the improved the setting of the Chinese Kanji font designcompetition itself, Chinese Kanji font design competition promotion in colleges and universities,Chinese Kanji font design competition integration with Chinese Kanji font design education,andprovides new ideas for the future of Chinese Kanji font design.In general, this paper takes the Chinese and Japanese Kanji font design competition as astarting point, compared with the setting and works of Chinese and Japanese Kanji font designcompetition, analyzes the current problems and dilemmas of Chinese Kanji font design and itsrelated competition, and puts forward the corresponding suggestion to promote the developmentof Chinese Kanji font design.
