Frances Poulenc is a great pianist and composer in France. His “Sonata for cello andpiano” combined the classical creative techniques with that of the twentieth century, whichbrought people a fresh feeling. The Sonata requires musician’s high standard of musicalityand playing techniques. Understanding the composer’s creative characteristics and graspingthe song’s playing style are prior to learning this Sonata. Cello playing with works of musichistory, music theory, and analysis improves the processes in learning and understanding theSonata music. The writer hopes that more music lovers know this classical work and get adeeper understanding of20th century music through researching.
