Spirit Screen, a wall setting inside or outside the gate of a complex of architectures, faces the gate to serve as a barrier for the yard. No matter inside or outside, Spirit Screen greets everyone getting through the gate, which is called "Da Zhao Mian" in Chinese, so Spirit Screen can also be called as "Zhao Bi" or "Zhao Qiang" in Chinese. It is an important branch in ancient Chinese architectures and also an inalienable part of various historic building complexes, which is significant to ancient Chinese architecture culture. This essay mainly analyzes the Spirit Screens in Nanjing and investigates their preservation conditions, in order to evaluate the preservation conditions for the whole relic complex. Thus, it will have a reflection of the thesis. The Nanjing area is not the most important place of spirit screen culture of origin and development of the region, but still retains a number of very important spirit screen, with their own characteristics. Each one has his good points, and it belongs to the main building are also well-known ancient buildings. Asthe Presidential Palace, Confucius Temple, the Imperial Palace, Jiming Temple, Linggu Temple, Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum has saved the spirit screenremains.In addition, the essay emphasizes that the protection for historic buildings admits of no delay because of the increasing destructions of traditional Chinese architectures due to the rapid development of modernization. The author holds that the whole public should be mobilized to protect ancient Chinese architectures, in order to ensure the long existence of the traditional Chinese culture.
