A Study On The Language And Culture Of Tongchuan Place Names

Geographic names is the mirror of culture, and it contains rich information such as language and cultural. Tongchuan is located in the cross connecting area of Guanzhong Plain and the northern plateau of Shaanxi Province. Thanks to its complex geographic conditions and the distinctive humanistic feelings, Tongchuan today has having a unique style of geographic names. In terms of linguistics, this article emphasizes on Tongchuan geographic names and its culture with the method of social linguistics to research and analyze. And it will fill the blanks of Tongchuan geographic names in the field of linguistics research.This article takes the Tongchuan geographic names as the research object. And it has 3463 geographic names totally. Combined with the local chorography, geographic names, geography of Tongchuan and other statistics,this article analyses the Tongchuan geographic names in a system way, and will strive to present the whole picture of Tongchuan geographic names which.based on data omni-directional and multi-level.This article is divided into four chapters:The first chapter is the introduction part. It introduced the fundamental state of Tongchuan from the aspects of geography, history and culture inheritance. It also explain the current research status of Toponymy and the purpose, the significance,the scope, the methods of this study;The second chapter discusses the structure of the Tongchuan geographic names from the aspects of syllables-form and structure-forming. And finally it points out that the three-syllables of Tongchuan geographic names and the additional structure is the main structure -form of Tongchuan geographic names;The third chapter discusses the situation of naming the geographic names of Tongchuan from the usage of words and figures of speech;Chapter iv discusses the connection between Tongchuan geographic names and its social-cultural. It is analyzed from four aspects:Tongchuan geographic names and its geographical features, Tongchuan geographic names and its historical and culture, Tongchuan geographic names and its social mentality, Tongchuan geographic names and dialect. In this chapter, the social culture behind Tongchuan will be further discovered by using some statistics, Further knowing Tongchuan and understanding it.
