It is a new area for most people to research on the naming words ofTibetan culture. However, it contains deep cultural connotations. It has importanthistorical and practical significance and what’s more, it is a significant part ofTibetan studies. Names are a special cultural phenomenon, which show us a kind ofhistory and culture trajectories. Everything has its name. Because of theiruniversality, names have been neglected by most people, especially the research onthe naming words of Tibetan culture.This paper takes human names, geographic names, mountain names, waternames and temple names of Tibetan culture as research objects. Applying the relatedliterature and basing on investigating and researching, it explores their uniquecharacteristics and cultural information, in order to have a thorough understandingof naming words of Tibetan culture.This paper is divided into five parts to carry on the concrete elaboration.The first part is the introduction, including the significance of the selected topic,the research status at home and abroad and the research methods.The second part is the discussion on the development characteristics of namingwords, including human names and geographic names. In human names, it talksabout the origin and development of family names and the different contents ofhuman names in different period. In geographic names, it discusses the developmentcharacteristics of geographic names mainly from the structures, the contents andalso its combination with Chinese.The third part is the research on human names, including the origin of humannames, the combination forms as well as the gender symbols and the culturalcharacteristics.The fourth part is the research on geographic names, which takes mountainnames, water names, temple names and other geographic names as examples, andanalyzes their forms, sources, and naming characteristics.The fifth part is the analysis of the characteristics of naming words of Tibetanculture, including the production and living, religion, geography, and their comparison with the naming words of Han culture.
