Tombs reflect the social life, ideological and cultural characteristics of an ethnic group. Different ethnic groups have different funeral customs, and burial objects reflect productivity at that time. lit has been found a respectable number of Zhou and Qin tombs in Xi’an. The tombs of Western-Zhou dynasty have been discovered more than 1200, and Qin tombs from the Chunqiu period to the Qin dynasty have more than 2500. In recent years, the articles are rich for Qin and Zhou tombs, but articles for a comparative study of Zhou and Qin tombs are rare. Xi’an was the capital of Qin Guo, Western-Zhou and Qin dynasty. That’s why we choose Xi’an. As the comparative study of Zhou and Qin tombs in Xi’an region, we can realize Zhou and Qin culture’s similarities, differences, characteristics, inheritances and innovations, and find the important position of Zhou and Qin culture in the history of China.In this paper, Zhou and Qin tombs in Xi’an area are collected, and we make a comprehensive and systematic study(comparative study in two dimensions of horizontal and vertical analysis), and then discuss burial system, ideology, patriarchal system and culture in aspects of social life at that time. To deepen understand Zhou and Qin culture,, this article uses reports of tombs and literature to confirm each other. This paper discusses the similarities, differences, relationships and status of Zhou and Qin in Chinese civilization. This paper mainly studies the following aspects:Zhou tombs’ features of Western-Zhou dynasty; Qin tombs’characteristics in Xi’an region; The similarities, differences and the cultural differences about Zhou and Qin tombs in Xi’an region.hi this paper, Zhou and Qin tombs in Xi’an region have been collected and classified, which mainly contain the tombs’structure, type and direction.Most Zhou tombs in Xi’an region are vertical, but there are also several catacombs. Most Qin tombs in Xi’an region are catacombs, but vertical tombs are also many. Catacombs’masters’social status should be higher than the vertical tombs’. In several large cemeteries which have TaoLiQi(objects made of clay in imitation of bronze objects),49 vertical tombs have TaoLiQi, which is 10.2% of the vertical tombs.163 catacombs use TaoLiQi, which is 21% of all the catacombs. Before the middle of the Warring states, catacombs are not popular in Qin tombs. Catacombs were rapidly in popularity after the middle of the Warring states in Qinguo. We conject that it related to the productivity, utilitarianism and improvement of Qin’s comprehensive strength.The most Zhou bodies buried in Xi’an region are straight and the most Qin tombs’ bodies are curve. Among the clearly 825 Zhou tombs’bodies, the straight are 807 and the curve are only 18. There are 323 straight and 1418 curve bodies in Qin tombs. In several large cemeteries which have TaoLiQi, straight tombs’masters’social status should be higher than the curve. The straight are 64, which contains 40% of their total number. The curve are 59, which contains 7.9% of their total number.Zhou tombs’directions are complex:Most are north(580); The second is east(353); The third is west(236); The last is south(179). Qin tombs’directions are similiar:Most are west(1070); Followed by the north(277);Next is the east(263);The last is south(96). In several large cemeteries which have TaoLiQi, west is the largest number(122), accounting for 58.4% of all the west. The east represent the highest social status, which accounts for 49% of all the east.
