When the People’s Republic of China was founded, the Yoshida government governed Japan. At that time, the cold war contributed to global imbalance and the East Asia became a vulnerable region. In this situation, the Yoshida government took a conservative and cautious foreign policy. In the policy to China, considering the relations with the USA, the Yoshida government took "Two China Policy" and "Economy Separation Policy", which caused series of adverse effects to the future of relations between China and Japan. For the normalization of diplomatic relations, the contents of the policy to China have some changes, but the basic principles have not changed substantially.Considering the formation of the cold war in East Asia and the re-establishing diplomatic ties between Japan and US, this paper introduces the changes of geopolitics of East Asia in the early postwar period. In such a historical background, the Yoshida government is determined to follow United States foreign policy and adopt a hostile attitude towards China. After Japan and the United States signed a peace treaty, the relations between Japan and America changed. With American military occupation over, the economic recovery and development of Japan became more and more important. According to the situation, the Yoshida government adjusted the policy to China. Without touching the Francisco System, the Yoshida government carried out the Economy Separation Policy.Based on the narration of Yoshida government’s policy to China, this paper analyzes the characteristics of Yoshida government’s policy to China by another angle. Whether in the United States military occupation or after Treaty of San Francisco signed, the Yoshida government’s external policy focused on conservatism and realism. Therefore, the Yoshida government’s policy to China is conservative and realism.Through studying the Yoshida government’s policy toward China, we can further understand and study the impact and enlightenment of Yoshida government’s policy to China. The policy not only made relations between the two countries much worse but also caused the future development of Sino-Japanese relations into great limitation. At the present stage, China and Japan should get out of the historical dilemma. Through cooperating and communicating, creating common interests between China and Japan.In a word, this paper collects a lot of historical materials about the Japanese government’s policy towards China, studies Yoshida government’s policy to China when East Asia Geopolitics changes, through narrating and researching the evolution, characteristics and influence of Yoshida government’s policy to China, this paper analyses and searches various factors that restrict the development of Sino-Japanese Relations and lessons which could contribute to the improvement and development of Sino-Japanese Relations.
