The primitive worship of the Dai nationality boasts a long history and exerts influence on the daily lives of Dai people for a long period. The formation of social and political system of the Dai can be traced back to its primitive worship, and their ideological and moral behaviors may also been guided and standardized by this worship. After the Southern Buddhism was introduced into the Dai national minority area, one witnessed the popularization and rooting as well as the combination with the ruling class, which exerts deep influence on the religious and secular life of the Dai people.Primitive worship and the southern Buddhism coexisted in the Dai society after struggling and inter-amalgamation. These two kinds of religious beliefs coexisted in Gods system, clergy, sacrificial ceremony, etc, which exerts great influence on many aspects of ethical life of the Dai people, such as marry, fertility, folk festivals, and jointly promote the thinking mode of Dai nationality, the update of literature and art, and the ethical development. The reason why primitive worship and exotic southern Buddhism can coexist in the Dai people’s social life is that the Dai minority witnessed foreign communication, cultural adaptation, and the result of internal social integration and national character shaping.The coexistence between primitive worship of the Dai national minority and southern Buddhism beliefs is experiencing a series of subtle changes in the reality of the relationship and showed a certain trend after the changing of times. Understanding, analyzing and grasping the relationship between this reality and change trend can promote the healthy development of the religious culture of the Dai nationality and the reach the effective implementation of the national religious policy.
