The Va [Wa] nationality has a long history. In china, Va mainly gathered in southwestern ofYunnan province and is one of the indigenous people ofYunnan.This paper selected two villagenamed Yanshuai and Banlao at Cangyuan County which is in Lincang City, Yunan Province asfieldword locations. These two villages have the same Wa nationality but with different religiousbeliefs, and their musical culture also showed a very big difference. Overall speaking, morepeople at Yanshuai region retain the traditional folk music, while Banlao region’s traditional musicalmost disappeared. Historically, Wa people has their own belief which is based on animistic. Inmodern times, as some foreign religions got into Cangyuan region, the beliefs in the two villagewhich is not far away from each other had changed due to historical reasons, one to retain thetraditional Primitive Religious Beliefs, the other accepted the foreign Theravada Buddhism Beliefs.The two villages selected as fieldwork locations in this paper is exactly typical village under thesetwo religious beliefs, which have abundant data at ethnic festivals, life etiquette, social practicesand so on. This paper using ethnomusicology, folklore and cultural theory methods to investigatethe case as the starting point, the total observation time, based on the old man from the village,documents and data combing their diachronic music and the relationship between religiouspractices, trying to express music from occurring, maintaining other aspects are associated withfolk activities are inseparable. The author for the same two groups of different ethnic musicperformance as a starting point, carding two villages in the performance of folk activities a hugedifference, the conclusion that because modern chose a different religion as a result of the reasonsfor the current situation.
