With the development of society and economy, China’s urbanization process has gradually accelerated. The city became the main places of absorbing rural surplus labor. Young labor force from rural areas flocked to the city to work. This transfer of rural labor force caused many problems of left-behind elderly. Especially in recent years, a number of national thinking and exploration of three dimensional rural issues(Problems about Agriculture, Rural areas and Peasantry), making the left-behind elderly become a hot academic research object. At present, the research of left-behind elderly by domestic scholars mainly focus on provision for the aged after the adult children out, inter-generational education(elderly tending grandchildren) and other issues. Scholars have less concern for the psychological status of left-behind elderly. After a review of the literature, the writer found that life satisfaction is directly related to the condition of provision for the aged and living of left-behind elderly. And there is a very close relationship between life expectancy and life satisfaction. Based on the above thinking, this study has carried on the exploration of the following two aspects:Study 1, the scale development of the rural left-behind elderly life expectancy. 100 eligible subjects from Hujia Town and Tuzhu Town of Xuanhan County, Sichuan Province were selected as test object. The writer prepared the measurement questionnaire with a good reliability and validity. Study 2, the empirical research. 300 eligible subjects from six towns of Xuanhan County, Sichuan Province were selected as the research object, in order to analyses overall condition of rural left-behind elderly life expectancy and life satisfaction, and the differences on demographic variables, besides, to investigate the relationship between the life expectancy and life satisfaction. The conclusions are as follows:1. The questionnaire of rural left-behind elderly life expectancy questionnaire of this study includes four dimensions: material life, physical health, mental health, and social function.16 specific test item has a good distinction degree and internal consistency reliability, at the same time it has a ideal construct validity.2. Rural left-behind elderly life expectancy higher than the theory median, at high levels.3. Rural left-behind elderly life satisfaction at the level of lower-middle.4. Age, single or not, whether living with grandchildren, the time that children at home, children’s financial situation and physical condition have significant effects on rural left-behind elderly life expectancy.5. Age, single or not, children’s financial situation and physical condition have significant effects on rural left-behind elderly life satisfaction.6. The life expectancy of the rural left-behind elderly and its various dimensions and life satisfaction showed a significant negative correlation.
